Executive Director Of The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle Wins Award Jill Staton Bullard Wins YWCA Academy Of Women Award
RALEIGH, N.C. - Jill Staton Bullard, Executive Director of the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, has been awarded the YWCA Academy of Women award for her community service efforts. The Academy of Women is an honorary society comprised of women who demonstrate a commitment to the community and epitomize the YWCA mission of empowering women and eliminating racism. Paul Pope and the Capitol Broadcasting Company nominated Bullard for the community service award.
"The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle is hundreds of people working daily to alleviate hunger. I am so grateful to be involved with these dedicated people," said Bullard. "Women leaders are a powerful force in implementing change in the world and I am honored to be a part of such an influential sector."
About the YWCA Academy of Women: The Academy of Women is an annual awards event created in 1983 by the YWCA of the Greater Triangle to recognize the achievements of outstanding local women in the community. The women chosen are some of the most accomplished, talented and dedicated business people, artists, volunteers and educators in the Triangle area.
About Jill Staton Bullard: Jill Staton Bullard is the founder and executive director of the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, a nationally recognized food rescue organization serving seven counties in North Carolina. Since its inception in 1989, the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle has grown from a small grassroots movement operating out of the back of a station wagon to a nationally renowned authority in the area of perishable food recovery and hunger relief. The organization now has a fleet of 12 trucks, a staff of 27 and more than 400 volunteers. Recognizing the need to help people become self-sufficient, Bullard created the Fisherman's Project in 1998 to provide culinary job training and life-skills for unemployed and underemployed men and women. Bullard has provided leadership in the fight against hunger on the state and national level. She has served on the National Affiliate Council and Board of Directors for America's Second Harvest, the Steering Committee of the North Carolina Hunger Summit and the Board of Dire ctors for FoodChain. She is the founding director of NC Hunters for Hunger and has been awarded the Exemplar Award from Notre Dame University, the Salvation Army's Other Award and the 2002 Individual Award for Outstanding Service to the Citizens of Raleigh. Bullard's passion is infectious, and through the years she has inspired thousands of people of different faiths and backgrounds to build an inclusive table where all are fed and all have access to nutritious food.
